  • Most hail and wind damage isn't visible from the ground. Hail hits leave small dents or bruises in the shingle surface that break down the granule layer over time, leading to leaks months or years later. The only way to know for sure is to have a trained professional inspect your roof up close. We offer free storm damage inspections — we get on the roof, document everything with photos, and show you exactly what we find. No charge, no obligation.

  • If you have verifiable storm damage, yes. That's exactly what your insurance is for. Filing a legitimate claim does not automatically raise your premiums — in Texas, insurance carriers cannot surcharge you for weather-related claims. However, it's important to have the damage documented by a professional before calling your carrier so you know what you're dealing with.

    • What is my deductible for wind/hail damage? Is it a flat dollar amount or a percentage of my dwelling coverage?

    • Does my policy cover Replacement Cost Value (RCV) or Actual Cash Value (ACV)?

    • Are there any exclusions or limitations for hail/wind damage?

    • Will filing a weather claim affect my premium at renewal?

    • Are there discounts for impact-resistant or FORTIFIED roofing systems?

  • You pay your deductible directly to JayCo Roofing — the contractor performing the work. Your insurance company subtracts the deductible amount from the total claim payout. For example, if your roof replacement costs $15,000 and your deductible is $2,500, insurance pays $12,500 to you (or jointly to you and your mortgage company), and you pay JayCo the $2,500 deductible.

Important: Texas law (HB 2102) requires homeowners to pay their full deductible. Any contractor who offers to "waive" or "cover" your deductible is breaking the law and putting you at risk.

    1. Damage inspection - We inspect your roof and document any damage with photos and measurements.

    2. File your claim - You call your insurance company to report the damage. We can help you know what to say.

    3. Adjuster inspection - Your insurance sends an adjuster to assess the damage. We meet them on-site to make sure nothing is missed.

    4. Claim approval - Insurance issues payment based on their assessment. If the initial scope is short, we file a supplement with additional documentation.

    5. Work begins - Once approved, we schedule your project, complete the work, and you pay your deductible.

    6. Final payment - If you have an RCV policy, insurance releases the remaining depreciation after the work is verified complete.

  • Replacement Cost Value (RCV) pays to replace your damaged roof with new materials of like kind and quality, minus your deductible. This is the better policy — you get a new roof for just your deductible.

Actual Cash Value (ACV) pays the depreciated value of your roof at the time of the loss, minus your deductible. So if your roof was 15 years old, they pay what a 15-year-old roof is "worth" — which is significantly less than the cost of a new one. You're responsible for the difference out of pocket.

If you have an ACV policy and are considering switching to RCV, talk to your agent. The premium difference is usually small compared to the protection it provides.

  • Most residential roof replacements are completed in one day. Larger homes, multi-story buildings, or specialty roofing systems (tile, slate, metal) may take 2-3 days. Commercial roofs vary based on size and system type. We'll give you a clear timeline before work begins and communicate any changes.

    • Repair if the damage is localized (a few missing shingles, one leak area), the roof is under 15 years old, and the underlying decking is solid.

    • Replace if damage is widespread, you have multiple active leaks, shingles are curling or losing granules across the whole roof, or the roof is 20+ years old.

  • It depends on your budget, aesthetic preferences, and performance goals. Here's a quick guide:

    • Asphalt shingles - Most affordable, 25-30 year lifespan, wide variety of styles. The most common choice in DFW.

    • Impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles - Same look as standard shingles but designed to withstand hail. Often earns insurance discounts.

    • Metal (standing seam) - 50+ year lifespan, excellent wind/hail resistance, energy efficient. Higher upfront cost, but you may never replace it again.

    • Stone coated steel - Metal durability with the look of tile or shake. Impact resistant, lightweight, 50-year warranty.

    • Tile (concrete or clay) - 50+ year lifespan, beautiful aesthetic, very heavy (requires structural verification).

    • Slate - 100+ year lifespan. The ultimate in durability and beauty. Premium price point.

We help you weigh the options based on your specific situation, there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

  • Impact-resistant (IR) shingles are rated Class 4 under the UL 2218 standard, meaning they can withstand the impact of a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet without cracking. They're made with modified asphalt polymers (like SBS rubber) that make the shingle flexible and resilient instead of brittle.

Benefits: superior hail protection, longer lifespan than standard shingles, and insurance premium discounts of 10-35% from many Texas carriers. In a state where hail damage is the #1 cause of roof replacement, Class 4 shingles are one of the smartest upgrades you can make.

  • FORTIFIED is a set of building standards developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) designed to make your roof significantly more resistant to severe weather. It's not a material — it's a system of upgrades that includes sealed roof decking, enhanced nail patterns, stronger edge details, and impact-resistant shingles. A FORTIFIED roof is verified by an independent third-party evaluator.

  • A FORTIFIED roof typically costs anywhere from 5-15% more than a standard roof replacement, depending on the home. The upgrades are incremental - better underlayment, additional fasteners, enhanced drip edge - not a completely different system. Many homeowners recoup that cost within 3-5 years through insurance premium reductions.

  • In most cases, yes. Many Texas insurance carriers offer premium discounts of 15-40% for FORTIFIED-designated roofs. The exact savings depend on your carrier, location, and policy details. We recommend calling your agent and asking specifically about FORTIFIED discounts before your replacement so you know the math ahead of time.

  • Fascia is the vertical board along the edge of your roofline. Soffit is the horizontal panel underneath the roof overhang. Together they protect the edges of your roof system, seal your attic from pests and weather, and provide ventilation that keeps your attic temperature and moisture in check. When soffit or fascia fails, you get water intrusion, pest problems, and inadequate ventilation that shortens your roof's life.

  • We use premium oil-based stains that penetrate the wood fibers rather than sitting on the surface like paint. This provides true UV protection, water repellency, and enhanced color that lasts 3-5 years before needing re-application. We offer semi-transparent and semi-solid options depending on the look you want.
